Ahmad Tea Celebrates 40 Years of Tea Heritage with a Ruby Jubilee Celebration in Malaysia

Forty years after its beginnings as a small family tea shop in England, Ahmad Tea is celebrating a milestone that brings together its British roots, international journey and ambitions for the future.

The family-owned tea brand marked its 40th anniversary with a Ruby Jubilee celebration in Malaysia, inviting guests to explore the stories and craftsmanship behind its teas. Alongside a look back at four decades of tea making, the occasion introduced a new addition to its portfolio: Ahmad Tea Sencha.

It was a celebration of how far the brand has travelled, but also of the founding principle it continues to uphold—that every tea carrying the Ahmad Tea name should be worthy of being served in the family home.

From a Family Tea Shop to an International Brand

Ahmad Tea’s story began in Southampton, England, in 1986, when Mr. Rahim Afshar and his brothers established a small family tea business.

At its heart was an uncompromising approach to quality. Rather than treating tea simply as a product, the family built its business around selecting and creating blends they would be proud to share at home.

That personal standard became the foundation of the brand’s identity. Over the following four decades, Ahmad Tea grew beyond its early beginnings to reach tea drinkers around the world, while remaining family-owned.

Today, its portfolio spans classic British black teas, herbal infusions and contemporary tea varieties. The range reflects a balance between preserving familiar favourites and responding to the different ways people enjoy tea.

Bringing Four Decades of History to Life

The Malaysian Ruby Jubilee celebration offered guests a closer look at that journey through a 40-Year Heritage Wall, curated tea-tasting sessions and a presentation of the brand’s extensive portfolio.

The heritage display traced the company’s development, providing context for the family story behind the name. Meanwhile, the tasting sessions placed the focus on the tea itself, giving guests an opportunity to explore the range beyond its packaging.

Together, these elements connected the brand’s history with the work that goes into its products. Tea selection and blending were central to the occasion, highlighting the attention to detail that Ahmad Tea identifies as a defining part of its approach.

Rather than looking only at the anniversary as a business milestone, the celebration also explored the standards and traditions the family hopes to carry forward.

A Fresh Chapter with Ahmad Tea Sencha

An anniversary naturally encourages reflection, but Ahmad Tea also used the occasion to look ahead with the launch of Sencha.

The new offering brings another expression of tea into the brand’s portfolio, reflecting its continued interest in the diverse traditions and preferences of tea drinkers.

For Ahmad Tea, the introduction sits alongside its established range rather than replacing the classics that have shaped its reputation. It represents an opportunity to broaden the selection while maintaining the focus on craftsmanship associated with the family business.

The launch also gave the Ruby Jubilee a forward-looking dimension. Beyond celebrating four decades of familiar blends and shared tea moments, the brand is continuing to explore what its next chapter might bring.

“Preparation Is Everything”

Another highlight of the anniversary year is Ahmad Tea’s partnership with Premier League footballer Antoine Semenyo, who has been appointed its Global Brand Ambassador.

The collaboration forms part of the brand’s “Preparation Is Everything” campaign, centred on preparation, discipline and consistency.

The campaign draws a parallel between Semenyo’s approach to football and Ahmad Tea’s approach to tea making. Its message is that the finished result depends on the work that comes before it—whether that involves preparing for a match or paying attention to the selection and blending of tea.

It is a theme that connects the new partnership with the company’s founding philosophy: quality comes from care throughout the process.

British Roots, a Global Presence

From its origins in Southampton, Ahmad Tea has expanded to more than 80 markets worldwide, while retaining its family ownership.

The company continues to identify quality, integrity, responsible sourcing and innovation as priorities. Its recognitions include the King’s Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development, alongside numerous Great Taste Awards.

As Ahmad Tea enters its next decade, the Malaysian celebration brings its past and future into the same conversation. The heritage displays honour the family’s beginnings, the Sencha launch introduces something new, and the global campaign offers a fresh way to communicate its longstanding focus on preparation.

Forty years on, the brand’s guiding idea remains a personal one: create tea that the family would be proud to serve in its own home.
